Whether you’re new to the community or simply want to pursue a new hobby, the YMCA brings together people who love to learn. Here is a list of some upcoming training opportunities.

Lifeguard Training (must be 15+ years old)

Course candidates will become lifeguards by gaining the necessary skills needed to recognize, prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course certifications include Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer (valid 2 years). Upon registration, participants are required to give a current email address in order to process records with the American Red Cross. If certification requirements are not met, certification will not be awarded and no refund will be given. Must attend entire 4-day class-NO EXCEPTIONS!

Upcoming Dates: August 28-31 (Mon.-Thurs.) from 9am-4pm at the La Crosse YMCA, October 14, 15,21, 22 (Sat. & Sun.) from 9am-4pm at the Onalaska YMCA., December 26-29 (Tues.-Fri.) from 9am-4pm at the La Crosse YMCA.

Group Fitness Instructor Certification (must be 18+ years old)

A partnership between Y-USA and the American Council on Exercise (ACE) provides the opportunity to pursue an innovative, accessible, and inexpensive Y certification in Group Fitness. This certification is completely done at your convenience on the YMCA exchange website. For more information and steps to complete this certification, contact Kylie Formanek at or 608.519.5474.

MIXXEDFIT Group Fitness Instructor Certification (must be 18+ years old)

Become certified to teach a people-inspired dance fitness program that is a perfect blend of explosive dancing and bootcamp-inspired toning. This class format combines music you'd hear at the on the radio or at the club with repetitive, easy-to-follow dance and toning moves. It's a perfect class for group fitness beginners, expert dancers and everyone in between.
